The market in brief

Côte d’Ivoire buys much of its pork abroad, and the government wants more of it produced at home. Pig333 reported on 13 October 2025 that livestock makes up about 4.5% of agricultural GDP and about 2% of national GDP, and that the government aims to reduce dependence on pork imports gradually (Pig333, 13 October 2025). That page gives no pork production or import volumes.

Indicator Value Source
Livestock share of agricultural GDP about 4.5% Pig333, October 2025
Imports of pork and related products 55,712 t (2019) → 121,055 t (2023) FAO data cited by Ecofin (we read a summary)
National pig herd about 464,000 head Ministry of Animal Resources, via Ecofin (we read a summary)
Pork demand and import share about 60,000 t; 80–83% imported 2026 Ivorian journal paper citing FAO 2020 (summary)
ASF culling, 2024 more than 100,000 pigs; about US$32 million lost Food Business Africa (summary)

The figures from different summaries do not agree, so we do not pick one; they point the same way, towards high import dependence and a government wish to produce more locally. The Pro-Porc project brought 35 breeding pigs from France in October 2025, after 50 in 2023, according to a summary of Ecofin reporting.

What this means for a project:

  • Import dependence shows demand, but imports are also competition. Plan on your own costs and test the plan against import prices; see what drives the cost of a pig farm.
  • Restocking after disease needs a clean-up plan. See restocking a pig farm after ASF and ASF biosecurity for pig farms.
  • Genetics come from outside. Include quarantine and import steps in the schedule.

Humid heat makes ventilation and cooling central; see heat stress in pigs and pig house ventilation design. Plan standby power: backup power for pig houses.

Rules and who to ask

Permits, veterinary registration and import requirements are set by national and local authorities and change. Ask the ministry responsible for animal resources and its veterinary services, regional and local offices, and your clearing agent about imported equipment; our guide to importing pig farm equipment from China lists the usual documents.

We are ready to work with you on a project in line with the requirements of the country where it will be built. The documents and conditions are agreed with our specialists through the live chat on this site or at sales@hnyzgroup.com.

How we approach a project here

  1. Your data: sows or pig places, site, water, power, buyer and timeline.
  2. Layout: flows of pigs, feed, people and manure with biosecurity zoning.
  3. Climate and power design: cooling, ventilation, drainage, generator and alarms.
  4. Equipment, installation, training: by stage with a written scope.
  5. Documents: confirmed for your country before quotation.
