The market in brief

Thailand is a large, mostly self-supplied pork market. The Swine Raisers Association of Thailand, in figures republished by Pig333 in January 2026, estimates 2025 pig production at 23.584 million head, up 0.54% from 23.457 million in 2024, and expects 23.642 million in 2026 (Pig333, January 2026).

The association says the rise in output comes from recovery after African swine fever, with farms adopting more secure biosecurity systems. The article gives no sow numbers or farm counts, so we do not state them.

What this means for a project:

  • There is little import gap to fill. Pork imports are small against consumption, so a new farm needs a clear buyer, cost advantage or niche; see pig farm business models compared.
  • Biosecurity is a market requirement. Recovery after ASF has made secure layouts the norm: ASF biosecurity for pig farms.
  • Manure and water are permit topics near settlements. See pig manure management options.

Animal health

In January 2022 ASF was reported on three small farms in Prachuap Khiri Khan in western Thailand; 117 pigs were culled and movement within 5 km was banned, according to Pig World citing the Bangkok Post (Pig World, 25 January 2022). Check the current situation with the national livestock authority.

Climate: hot and humid

Place Coolest month (mean) Warmest month (mean) Record low / high Rain per year
Bangkok December, 27.3 °C April, 30.7 °C 9.9 °C / 41.0 °C 1,702.1 mm

Even the coolest month is hot, and humidity limits evaporative cooling, so cooling design and ventilation staging are the main climate tasks. See heat stress in pigs and pig house ventilation design. Northern, higher areas are cooler; we calculate for your site.

Rules and who to ask

Farm licensing, environmental approval, veterinary rules and import rules are set by national and local authorities and change. Ask the national livestock authority and your provincial livestock office, the local building and environmental offices, and your customs agent about imported equipment; our guide to importing pig farm equipment from China lists the usual documents.

We are ready to work with you on a project in line with the requirements of the country where it will be built. The documents and conditions are agreed with our specialists through the live chat on this site or at sales@hnyzgroup.com.

How we approach a project here

  1. Your data: sows or pig places, site, water, power, buyer and timeline.
  2. Layout: flows of pigs, feed, people and manure with biosecurity zoning.
  3. Climate design: cooling, ventilation stages and a controller for hot, humid weather.
  4. Equipment, installation, training: by stage with a written scope.
  5. Documents: confirmed for your country before quotation.
